Prologue: The story begins with the focus on Jilly, a successful and attractive professional single woman. probably early 30's. She is chatting casually and humorously with Clare, who is both a close friend and a colleague. They have known each other for years and Clare thinks she knows all there is to know about Jilly. They are laughing together but suddenly Jilly makes a comment that shocks Clare: 'If I was accused of murder and all the evidence pointed to me as being guilty, would you believe I had done it?'
Taken aback Clare stares at Jilly as this is a complete change of subject and she doesn't know what has led Jilly to ask such a strange question. But she relaxes as she looks into Jilly's face for she is laughing and Clare realises she is just messing around. It's a bit odd but she goes along with it and laughs too and says: 'of course I'll believe the evidence! I know you've got lots of skeletons in your cupborad and I'll be the first to march you down to the cells!' she mimes putting the handcuffs on Jilly's wrists and laughingly gives her a poke as if to say 'don't be daft I know you couldn't harm a fly!' They laugh together and then Ji;;y changes tyhe subject
